Using the mobile app

Prerequsities

JobService and Spooler need to be installed and set up to use the YSoft SAFEQ mobile app with YSoft SafeQ 6.

The YSoft SAFEQ mobile app allows users to submit documents for print. Documents can be uploaded directly from the app or via a share extension/share menu on iOS and Android. The YSoft SAFEQ mobile app allows the selection of desired finishing options before job submission if finishing options are supported.

Usage with an on-premise deployment of YSoft SafeQ 6

To use the application with an on-premise deployment the administrator must first set up the necessary components – JobService and Spooler. Deployment instructions contain a guide on how to set up these components.

The deployment can use an Integration with external Identity Providers via OpenID Connect, or use JobService as an identity provider. JobService is already preconfigured to support identity provider responsibilities. In case the administrator wants to change these settings, use Configuring YSoft SafeQ Job Service to support mobile app page.

After configuring an identity provider, either from JobService or external, the users can start Using the Mobile App for iOS or Using the Mobile App for Android by following the instructions in the alternative login section.

Limitations

  • Currently, the app cannot be used to release print jobs on MFDs.
  • Currently, the app cannot be used to scan documents.
  • Currently, the app doesn't provide any operations on the uploaded documents (print, delete, bulk operations, etc.)
  • Currently, the app supports only PDF files. Submission of PNG or JPG files is also possible, these file formats are converted to A4-sized PDF pages. Page size can be later specified in the finishing options. However, this does scale the image from scratch, but the already pre-rendered A4 page.
  • Currently, the app doesn't support logout when using the JobService as an identity provider.
  • Note, that the app does not store page range as a preferred finishing option, i.e. the page range is initially set to all pages after a file has been shared to the app.
  • Note, that Spooler is an alternative to FlexiSpooler on the server side, and they cannot be used concurrently using the same ports.
  • Note, that both JobService and Spooler have their own limitations and these are linked in their respective documentation pages.
