Windows Protected Print mode
About
Windows Protected Print Mode provides additional print security benefits by leveraging Windows modern print stack that solely relies on Internet Printing Protocol (IPP) and Microsoft IPP Class Print Driver.
Enabling Windows Protected Print Mode
Please follow official Microsoft documentation.
- Enable Windows Protected Print mode for individual PC
- Enable Windows Protected Print mode as group policy
Enabling of Windows Protected Print mode deletes already installed queues.
SAFEQ Cloud Client installation and deployment
You don't need to do any additional setup. Once the Windows Protected print mode is enabled, SAFEQ Cloud Client will recreate print queues on the next printer synchronization which is triggered:
- Every time the SAFEQ Cloud Client service is started.
- Periodically in set intervals (default is one hour).
- Manually by the user via tray menu "Synchronize printers".
Enabling Windows protected Print mode on a PC with already installed SAFEQ Cloud Client is supported as well as installation of SAFEQ Cloud Client to PC with enabled Windows Protected Print mode.
Enablement of Windows Protected Print mode in organizations
It is recommended to enable Windows Protected Print mode first for several individuals or small group of people via group policy and check compatibility with your printers. Older printers don't have to be compatible with PDF generated by Microsoft IPP Class Print Driver and may require document conversion.
Mopria certified printers are supposed to work without any issues or document conversions.
The output type of the Microsoft IPP Class driver is PDF. Therefore, it is pre-requisite that all the printers support the PDF generated by the Microsoft IPP Class driver.
